‘Bachelor’ contestant Greer Blitzer has apologized for defending blackface: “My ignorance was racist. And I’m just so ashamed.”

invited Blitzer, who was eliminated after contracting COVID-19 during week six of the show, to address her misdoing in the hot seat. “The truth is, as a franchise we’ve done a very poor job in the past in addressing serious topics head-on,” the host began, somewhat acknowledging the show’sBlitzer said that in her initial apology she “failed to mention…that what happened was racist,” continuing, “It’s not about the intent, it’s about the impact.
Banks noted Blitzer’s progress, but stressed that “we can’t nice our way out of racism.” She continued, “It’s really important not to just be performative, but to educate ourselves, to be willing to understand the history behind actions, and then be willing to do something different.”
