The cute creature serves an important role in this story.
delivered another exciting adventure, with “Mando” making a difficult, but morally sound decision . Thankfully, “the Child,” or “Baby Yoda” as he’s more widely known, is again safe in Mando’s hands. does right, but considering that we have yet to see the protagonist’s face, it’s kind of astonishing that the story manages to function.
We understand Mando through his actions, the subtle tilts of his helmet, and from what he chooses to pay attention to. But more importantly, we empathize with Mando because of his relationship to the Child. The pairing of the adorable infant and the faceless warrior, the helpless and the strong, has proved a compelling combination. With hardly any dialogue, chapter 3 delivered a rollercoaster of emotions, as Mando first abandoned the Child so he could receive his armor and status upgrade, then came back to burn his bridges and ease his conscience.
But chapter 3 highlighted Mando’s priorities; he really is a video game character, seeking new quests, status and equipment upgrades . Mandalorian culture is clearly everything to him, but his Guild membership, i.e., source of income, wasn’t as important as preserving the Child’s life.
