An infant male western lowland gorilla was born at the Fort Worth Zoo on Sunday.the arrival of its newest ape: a baby male Western lowland gorilla.
The infant, who has not been named, was born early Sunday and weighs between 4 and 5 pounds, the zoo said. He is the second Western lowland gorilla to be born at the Zoo.“The yet-to-be-named male is staying close to his mother as he meets other troop members and gets acclimated to his surroundings in the Zoo’s World of Primates habitat,” the zoo said.
The infant gorilla was born to parents Gracie and Elmo. Gus, who was the first Western lowland gorilla born at the zoo and turns 7 next month, is the baby’s older brother.on Facebook, calling the new gorilla a cutie. Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, the Fort Worth Zoo said, because of hunting and disease, and also have a low reproductive rate.
“We can’t wait to watch him grow! On your next visit, come say hi to our newest bundle of joy!” the zoo said..
