A three-week-old baby girl has died of hypothermia in a Gaza tent camp, highlighting the dire conditions facing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by Israeli attacks.
A 3-week-old baby girl, Sila, died of hypothermia in a tent camp in Gaza , marking the third such death in recent days. Her father, Mahmoud al-Faseeh, said their tent was not properly sealed from the wind and the ground was cold as temperatures dropped to 9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night. Sila woke up crying several times throughout the night, but in the morning, they found her unresponsive with stiff body.
Doctors at a field hospital tried to revive her, but her lungs had already deteriorated. Ahmed al-Farra, director of the children's ward at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, confirmed Sila's death from hypothermia and said two other babies, one 3 days old and the other a month old, had died from the same cause in the past 48 hours. These deaths highlight the dire conditions in Gaza's tent camps where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are living after fleeing Israeli attacks. Israel has killed over 45,360 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in the blockaded enclave, causing a massive shortage of basic necessities.
