SEREMBAN: The government should provide assistance to the more than 2.7 million households under the B40 category likely to be most affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, says Senator Waytha Moorthy.
The Malaysian Advancement Party president, who was former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said there was a pressing need for this as those who came under this category were predominantly daily paid and low-skilled workers or from single income households.
"These are the most affected community in the current Covid-19 and movement control order initiative.package to help small and medium enterprises sustain their business operations are welcomed, the government must take serious initiative to assist those from the B40 too," he said in a statement on Friday .
Waytha said MAP coordinators in several states were already receiving calls for help from those in this group. "We can foresee citizens from this group finding it difficult to even put food on the table for their families, if the government does not come up with some special measures to help them," he added.
