San Diego State earns automatic bid into NCAA Tournament, will learn NCAA Regional assignment during Sunday afternoon's selection show
Between the graduation ceremonies taking place at Viejas Arena and the fireworks coming from the Aztec Softball Field on Saturday afternoon, it was a festive weekend on Montezuma Mesa.
Senior Sarah Lehman started in the circle for the Aztecs. She struggled by allowing three walks while only recording one out in the first inning. The opening frame was the only traffic for the four-seeded Spartans as the 5-foot-5 southpaw took control of the game. The only hit came in the top of the third inning. Deniz said Hernandez wants to pitch with her back against the wall in order to be the most prepared.
Decker continued her consistency at the plate, launching a solo home run off the right field foul pole two innings later. Celis was named tournament MVP after hitting .444 with four runs scored and seven RBIs. Decker and Hernandez joined her on the all-tournament team.
