Colorado State issues an apology after fans chant 'Russia' at Utah State junior Max Shulga, who is from Ukraine, during their game Saturday
shortly after the game: ”We have amazing fans and students but this is not acceptable! My sincere apologies.”: “While extremely upsetting in the moment, I also know how emotions can run high during competition and people can and do say things they do not really mean. Colorado State and its fans have apologized and I accept and appreciate the apology.”
The incidents come as a tight conference race heats up, with sellout crowds expected at numerous venues over the season’s final month, including San Diego State’s trip to Utah State on Wednesday . “The Show” student section at Viejas Arena had the reputation of being the most vulgar in the Mountain West and has been reprimanded in the past. But the section’s current iteration appears to be tamer and has a more cordial relationship with the university administration.
