MELAKA: Firemen at the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Department are not under quarantine, says Melaka health and anti-drug committee chairman Rahmad Mariman.

He clarified that one of the personnel was asked to undergo self-quarantine after it was discovered that his son was enrolled at a tahfiz school in Jasin which had Covid-19 cases."This was part of the procedure by the department to ensure the safety of its officers," Rahmad said on Friday .

He was commenting on an allegation that 19 personnel from the station had been placed under quarantine after a colleague's son was infected with Covid-19.On April 7, some 70 students of Madrasah Bustanul Ulum Abu Bakar, Kampung Ayer Merbau in Jasin were placed in Covid-19 quarantine centre in Alor Gajah.

The move came after one teacher and 20 other students tested positive for Covid-19. The teacher and students are believed to be linked to the Seri Petaling mosque cluster.
