Chorley residents have slammed the axing of free parking in the town, with some going as far to say it'll 'kill' the town centre.
"If the council wanted to get more people in to Chorley, they're going the wrong way about it. Especially on a Sunday, I walk into town on a Sunday and see so many people who have come into town purely because they know it's free to park. If they get rid of the parking, the people will stop coming. "It'll kill off our town eventually. It'll cause so many problems for residents because they'll think 'oh if I nip down that street it's free' and the carparks will be empty because people will be parking on the side streets. To me, they should keep it free on a Tuesday and free on a Saturday, to pull people in for the market days."
Gill Monks has been trading on the market for seven years. She, like many people who spoke to LancsLive about the new charges, had no idea it was even happening.
