The last day of the 2024 Geauga County Maple Festival brought thousands to downtown Chardon.
CHARDON, Ohio -- Thousands flocked to the Chardon Town Square on a cloudy and sometimes rainy Sunday to celebrate the final day of the Geauga County Maple Festival.
The annual festival, which was founded in 1926 to market Ohio maple syrup, kicked off on Thursday afternoon. Each day consisted of dozens of family-friendly events. On Sunday, attendees were able to enjoy pancakes in the park starting at 8 a.m., along with the one mile and five mile sap runs. Other events included bathtub races, the lumberjack competition finals that featured chainsaw cutting and axe throwing, a maple auction and later a grand parade. Jim Morris of Madison said he attends the festival every other year. He decided to brave the rain with his family because of the “attractions and the ambiance.”Chardon resident Jackie Kakowski attends the festival every year with her husband, whom she said loves the chainsaws and maple candy, while she prefers the syrup and maple stirs.
