An Avon Lake polling location is experiencing a power outage in the middle of Election Day.
AVON LAKE , Ohio - A power outage in Avon Lake has caused some confusion for voters after reports were made that the outage impacted a city polling location.
The City of Avon Lake posted to Facebook early Tuesday afternoon explaining that the United Methodist Church polling location had been impacted by a power outage and that FirstEnergy was working to restore power. The Lorain County Board of Elections replied to the post saying no polling locations ever lost power, and that all locations have battery backups if the power were to go out.
In a separate post to Facebook, the city clarified that they had been notified by FirstEnergy that there was a power outage at a polling location. “The Lake Shore United Methodist Church’s building is on two different power grids. There was a nearby power outage that impacted part of the building, but did not impact the actual polling location,” the city wrote in its post.
