The Boeing 737 MAX 8 could be seen tilted to one side with one of its wings close to the ground in what is called a runway excursion.

Passengers saw a turbulent week aboard Boeing aircraft after a string of failures involving the company’s passenger jets. Problems during take-offs or landings happened three times this week, which has only added to the national scrutiny Boeing now faces.

“It has nothing to do with the airplane. Typically, excursions happen through some sort of a human error or a runway condition or a taxiway condition error,” Hamilton said., although it was able to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles. A different flight had a tire come off the nose gear last month. No one was hurt in any of these instances, although the tire that fell in San Francisco damaged a parked car before smashing through a fence at the airport.

The incidents are not linked to known issues with Boeing and its 737 Max, according to Hamilton, but they come as the airplane maker struggles to improve its safety image.
