Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder

Anticipation for the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer has been feverish, with various rumors and reports about when and where you'll be able to see it. New reports have revealed Marvel's unprecedented release strategy: put four Avengers: Doomsday trailers exclusively in theaters for a week at a time, only in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash showings.

On the surface, it's an incredibly exciting plan. Rather than get a single teaser, we'll get four. That's quadruple the amount of potential footage, characters, and more. Who wouldn't want to get even more Doomsday reveals than originally expected? But, there is a huge flaw with Marvel Studios' approach, one that will make the coming month a nightmare for the upcoming Avengers blockbuster. Everyone Won't Experience The Avengers: Doomsday's Trailers The Same Way Now The key problem with Avengers: Doomsday's trailer plan is what Marvel is asking its fans to do. Instead of being able to watch an official version of the new MCU movie teasers from anywhere, you'll have to pay to get into a theater not once, not twice, not three times, but four times. Depending on where you live, that's an $80 or more commitment just to see a few trailers. Not everyone can afford to do this, nor does everyone have the time. Even if you just buy Avatar: Fire and Ash tickets to see the trailer and don't stick around for the 3+ hour blockbuster, there's still a sizable effort that has to be made just to see any of the four teasers. As a result, Marvel is limiting the number of people who will get to experience the Avengers: Doomsday trailers in an official capacity. Some may be willing to do it once, but not everyone is going to do it four times. But that won't make interest in seeing them any lower. It's already easy to know what is going to happen as a result of this plan. As soon as each trailer starts playing in theaters, leaked versions of them recorded on the phones of people in attendance will start to circulate online. Marvel and Disney will surely try to get those taken down as quickly as possible, but there's almost no world where these trailers don't keep popping up online in suboptimal quality. This all makes Marvel's decision to roll out the record-breaking Avengers: Doomsday trailers in this way quite confounding. There is a greater chance that people will see a leaked version of the trailers first before they get a chance to make it to the theater to see them officially. And whether you watch a leaked teaser or see it in the theater, there will be no singular time when everyone around the world can watch it at the same moment. That could hurt the buzz that Avengers: Doomsday is able to generate. Instead of Marvel doing a worldwide official online release to launch the marketing campaign, the spoiler-averse studio is setting itself up for trouble combating leaks and getting people to see the trailers the way they are meant to be seen. With no known timeframe for when Marvel will release these four Avengers: Doomsday trailers online, the headache that could come from this may prove to be a frustrating start to a marketing campaign that the studio can't afford to mess up.
