Zendaya as Chani and Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in front of the sun in Dune: Part Two
One actor is set to have a stellar box office achievement during Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three's opening weekend."Dunesday" is coming later this year, as Doomsday and Dune 3 are releasing on the same day.
For many audiences, it will be an exciting double feature that includes two of 2026's most anticipated films. Doomsday is looking like the MCU's biggest crossover event yet, bringing together multiple teams to fight Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom, including the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Meanwhile, Dune 3 is the conclusion to director Denis Villeneuve's critically-acclaimed sci-fi trilogy, based on the novels by Frank Herbert. While they share the same release date, both films have the potential for significant box office success. For one actor, it will likely be an incredible opening weekend at the box office, and it will be intriguing to see how much each film can make in their theatrical runs. Florence Pugh Is In Avengers: Doomsday And Dune: Part 3 Doomsday and Dune 3 both have star-studded casts, including Pugh, who is reprising a role she played in previous films in each franchise. In Doomsday, Pugh is portraying Yelena Belova, who she first played in 2021's Black Widow. She's now a member of the Thunderbolts, who were deemed The New Avengers in 2025's Thunderbolts*' ending. The Thunderbolts are appearing in Doomsday, adding to the film's massive cast. Given how many characters are in the film, it's unclear how big her role will be, but it will be entertaining to see her interact with many of the MCU's other heroes. In Dune 3, Pugh is playing Princess Irulan. Debuting in Part 2, Irulan is the daughter of the emperor and a member of the Bene Gesserit. The second film ends with her agreeing to marry Paul Atreides to spare her father's life. Their relationship will be an intriguing storyline in the third film, since Paul still has feelings for Chani. Could Both Films Earn $1 Billion? Avengers: Doomsday is almost guaranteed to make $1 billion worldwide. Every Avengers film has crossed the $1 billion mark, with Infinity War and Endgame grossing over $2 billion. Considering Doomsday's massive cast and multiversal stakes, the film has all the ingredients needed to become a massive hit. Dune 3's road to $1 billion may be more challenging. While the Dune films have performed well, neither joined the billion-dollar club. The first film earned over $440.6 million worldwide, and Part II grossed over $714.8 million. Dune 3 is also based on Dune: Messiah, which may be hard to adapt in a way that appeals to mainstream audiences. However, at an event for the release of Dune 3's first trailer , director Denis Villeneuve said this film is"more action-packed," suggesting the spectacle will be even grander than before. Additionally, Dune: Part Three could be the biggest hit of the franchise, since each Dune film has performed better than the last. Two films releasing on the same day making over $1 billion would be a remarkable achievement. With roles in each film, Pugh is set for a spectacular weekend when both films premiere on December 18, 2026.
