With its worldwide grosses, the film is now one of only five films to do so. Avatar 2 joins 1997’s Titanic, 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Director James Cameron returned to lead the second installment of the Avatar franchise. The original film currently holds the record for being the biggest-selling film of all time, according to Box Office Mojo. Cameron has teased additional sequels.The Avatar sequel has four more weeks before it faces serious box office contention when the latest Marvel film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is released on Feb. 17.
