Paramount is developing a new Avatar: The Last Airbender movie, Aang: The Last Airbender, featuring Dave Bautista's voice as the villain.

Studios announced at CinemaCon that a new animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movie is in the works. The film’s working title is Aang: The Last Airbender., who worked on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, is directing the film, while William Mata serves as co-director. Series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are executive producing alongside Eric Coleman.

Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005. The fan-favorite series ran for three seasons and follows Aang and his friends — Katara, Sokka, and Toph — as they attempt to take down the villainous Fire Nation. Avatar: The Last Airbender was followed by a sequel series, The Legend of Korra, which premiered in 2012.

The series was turned into a poorly received live-action movie in 2010, which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Netflix also recently released the first season of a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, while more seasons are being planned.Brandon Schreur has been writing about comics, movies, television shows, and all things pop culture for roughly five years. He's a lifelong cinephile who spends way, way too much money buying Blu-rays and trade paperbacks.
