Recent avalanches have impacted major roadways in Alaska, leading to road closures and delays. The Parks Highway near mile marker 219 requires a pilot car due to avalanche debris, while the Dalton Highway near Atigun Pass is open with a caution advisory. Weather changes have reduced the risk of further avalanches.

Danielle Tessen, the communication manager with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, reports that recent avalanches have caused significant disruptions to major roadways in Alaska . The avalanches have moved snow and debris onto the highways, resulting in road closures and substantial delays for travelers.

On the Parks Highway near mile marker 219, avalanche debris remains on the roadway, requiring the use of a pilot car for vehicles traveling through the affected area.Tessen also informs that the Dalton Highway near Atigun Pass has reopened, but drivers are advised to exercise caution while navigating the potentially hazardous conditions. She notes that the weather patterns have shifted considerably since the weekend, and the likelihood of further avalanches has diminished. Tessen explains that the department anticipates two primary scenarios in the coming days: either they will need to proactively mitigate avalanche risks by bringing down excess snow and creating controlled avalanches, or conditions will remain stable, allowing for the continued cleanup and eventual full reopening of the Parks Highway. During periods of avalanche mitigation or cleanup, a pilot car system will be in place to ensure the safety of motorists. In other news, the Richardson Highway has reopened following an incident involving a military convoy. Additionally, the final work session for Fairbanks school consolidation is focusing on academic operations and the transition to new schools
