Avalanche danger is rising in the Alaska's capital city! Residents should be monitoring situation as snowfall continues
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Juneau as heavy snow blankets the capital city. And the borough is asking residents to stay vigilant for avalanches. The danger of avalanches is increasing as snowfall piles up on the mountains surrounding Alaska’s capital city.
The county and borough of Juneau said in a public statement Tuesday, that the “potential for avalanches in all known slide paths in Juneau is already elevated, and likely to increase overnight due to heavy snowfall and continued northerly winds in the forecast.” According to the announcement, the CBJ is moving to the “Set” stage, of the “Ready, Set, Go” preparedness framework, all due to the elevated risk.an evacuation advisory, however, CBJ is closely monitoring the hazard and will send out an emergency alert if conditions change significantly.“ At this stage, the “Set,” designation means residents should know their risk, have go-bag ready, and prepare household evacuation plans in case conditions change.
