Sophia Hetrick was last seen in Watchung Reservation in Mountainside during a Sunday afternoon hike with her family.
Sophia Hetrick, 14, was reported missing after going to the Watchung Reservation in Union County with her family.Multiple police, fire and EMS agencies were searching the Watchung Reservation Sunday night for a 14-year-old girl with autism who went missing while on an afternoon hike with her family, Union County authorities said.Sophia was wearing a pink top and white shorts.
The alert asked nearby residents to check sheds and open garage areas, keep outdoor lights on and to expect a visible presence of first responders searching in yards and wooded areas until they find Sophia. The New Jersey State Police deployed a helicopter with special night vision technology to aid in the search, and first responders were using boats to search lakes and waterways in the reservation.
Those with information about Sophia or useful information for searchers are asked to call their local police department. The Union County Police Department is coordinating the search.
