Hunter Mackey, 27, was arrested by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for first-degree rape in McLoud, Oklahoma, on Feb. 17. The investigation began after a sexual assault reported in North Texas on Oct. 10, 2021. The victim told investigators with the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office that she met the man through social media. Investigators said the suspect picked her up in a sedan with Oklahoma registration, drove her to a location, and sexually assaulted her. DNA collected in the case was submitted to the Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, by the DPS Crime Laboratory in Garland. Two months later, investigators were notified of a possible CODIS match between the Fannin County case and a similar sexual assault case in Ardmore, Oklahoma, being investigated by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Ardmore Police Department. Texas Rangers coordinated with Oklahoma law enforcement to conduct a familial search of DNA samples from the Ardmore case through DPS’s Crime Laboratory Division, but authorities said the search yielded no matches, and no arrests were made. In August 2024, evidence from the Ardmore case was sent for testing and comparison through DPS’s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative program, which is funded by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance. Using grant funds, the sample was sent to BODE Technologies for DNA testing and genealogy research. That work ultimately led to the identification of three brothers as potential suspects in September 2025, authorities said. After further investigation and DNA comparison between the sexual assault kits collected in the Fannin County and Ardmore cases, law enforcement identified a positive match to Mackey.On Feb. 17, 2026, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation located and arrested Mackey in McLoud.
