An 81-year-old author battling terminal cancer focuses on completing his six-book children's series as a driving force to keep going. He hopes to publish all books before his passing and donate proceeds to children's cancer charities.
Peter Butler, an 81-year-old author from Wells in Somerset, is determined to complete his beloved children's book series, The Tales of Gripper the Crab, before his time runs out. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, Butler says finishing the collection gives him 'an incentive to stay alive'. Inspired by family holidays to Cornwall, the stories feature Gripper the Crab and his adventures in rock pools, exploring marine life.
The series aims to entertain while also conveying important messages about ocean pollution, global warming, and homelessness. His third book, Dotty’s Cry for Help, will be published in April 2025, with all proceeds donated to children's cancer charities.
