An Australian state has committed more police to investigate a spate of antisemitic crimes after a childcare center was torched near a Sydney synagogue. A series of arson fires, vandalism and other attacks have targeted Jewish sites in Australia’s largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, since the war between Israel and Hamas began in 2023.

“These are criminals who are out to destroy our society and we, as the New South Wales Police Force, will do whatever we have to ensure that these people are arrested,” he added. “I can’t promise the end of this kind of violence. We are seeing a wave of antisemitic attacks in our community. It’s deeply distressing,” Minns added.
