About 40 armed forces personnel from the navy, air force and army, represented by Australia’s Federation Guard, will travel to London for the coronation.

Australian soldiers, sailors and aviators will join military representatives from more than 30 Commonwealth countries next month as part of ceremonial duties for the coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort.

Charles and Camilla will be crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey in a ceremony resplendent with pomp, pageantry and traditions dating back 1000 years. Gun salutes will sound out across the four corners of the United Kingdom to mark the moment the King is crowned, before military personnel conduct a flypast of more than 60 aircraft.

The coronation comes less than eight months after huge crowds packed the streets of London to witness the grand processions and ceremonies that markedWilliam and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, speak with Australian Army Captain Joshua Downs, who marched in the late Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral procession.

Australia’s Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles said the event signified the unerring obligation of their majesties to the Commonwealth, dedicating their lives to serve the nation. The occasion will include only a fraction of the number of armed forces personnel who took part in 1953, when 29,000 from Britain and across the Commonwealth marched in Queen Elizabeth’s coronation procession along a three-kilometre-long route that took 45 minutes to pass any given point.
