The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed the death and said consular assistance was being provided to his family.Paul Miller,48, was on the second day of walking the Kokoda Track when he collapsed and could not be revived.The Kokoda Track Authority has reportedly contacted PNG police to begin an investigation.

Miller’s family said the father of five had served in East Timor and was aiming to raise money for veteran support by walking the Track. His partner, Amanda, wrote a tribute to him on Facebook saying he was a passionate advocate for former servicemen and women.Partner Amanda said it was Paul Miller’s dream to trek Kokoda, which he was doing with his teenage son.“He went out with a bang, doing something that he has always wanted to do, Kokoda.”

The 96km jungle track across the Owen Stanley Mountains was the scene of intense fighting between Australian and Japanese troops in World War II and is walked by thousands of Australians every year to honour the Diggers who died there.
