Australian border authorities are at a remote Indigenous community in Western Australia's north as more than 20 people arrive by boat.

More than 20 men, thought to be from Pakistan and Bangladesh, have arrived in the remote northern WA community of Beagle Bay.The men have been taken to the kindy at the local school, and pillows were brought in about 5pm.

"In Pakistan the situation is very bad. They tortured me … they captured my property, many things they did with me," he said."They're not treating us like human beings in our country."He said he hoped to claim asylum and bring his wife and children to Australia. "They're in a park opposite the shop — it's created a bit of fuss. There's a crowd gathered to watch them," he said.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the arrival represented a failure of Australia's long-standing Operation Sovereign Borders.
