The Booker Prize judges — artist and writer Edmund de Waal, authors Sara Collins and Yiyun Li, The Guardian fiction editor Justine Jordan, and producer and composer Nitin Sawhney — described the book as: The other five authors shortlisted for the prize, worth £50,000 , include two American authors: Percival Everett and Rachel Kushner; British writer Samantha Harvey; Canadian writer Anne Michaels and Dutch author Yael van der Wouden.
In Stone Yard Devotional, a religious community is beset by a mouse plague and a celebrity nun returning the remains of a sister who left the group.Fortunately, the author and her sisters have since fully recovered: "We're all out the other side, but you don't come away from that experience unchanged."
