Australia's statewide endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain service is exceeding operations in just six months. Family Planning Tasmania has expanded operations and is monitoring demand. A national review of the clinics' success will take place this year.

Australia 's 'one-stop shop' endometriosis clinics are now up and running. Here's what they're doing for patientsIn under six months of operation, demand for Tasmania's statewide endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain service is already exceeding operations.Family Planning Tasmania says it has already expanded operations, and is monitoring demand. A review of the clinics' success nationally will also take place this year.

The service is designed to be a "one-stop shop", bringing together services including doctors, pelvic floor physiotherapists and pain psychologists.Tasmania's clinic — which operates at multiple centres — opened just under six months ago and demand is already exceeding expectations. "You usually have to go to one GP, get a referral to go to the physio, and then another referral to go to the pain psychologist, if that was the pathway designated for you," she said.

"A certain amount of pain and a few cramps are absolutely standard … but having this clear pathway that is available no matter where you live and no matter your socio-economic status, means it actually opens up doors you may not have ever thought about before."Pelvic floor physiotherapist Janet Fraser works with the service, helping to develop personalised pain and symptom management plans for patients and breaking down individual stressors.

"We know when women have pelvic pain, and especially if they have it for a long time, the nervous system becomes really sensitised which means the pain doesn't behave like we expect it to," she said.Dr Fraser said the sessions were guided by what the patient hoped to get out of them. It's an approach already striking a chord with Tasmanian women, Ms Mackenzie said, with services already starting to see waiting lists.
