Mail and parcel deliveries resume today to hundreds of Alice Springs homes, almost a fortnight after Australia Post suspended its service following allegedly violent attacks against a veteran postie.

Australia Post has recommenced delivering mail and parcels to hundreds of homes in Alice Springs, almost a fortnight after halting the service due to staff safety concerns.Australia Post halted all deliveries to some Sadadeen residents in the wake of multiple allegedly violent attacksFollowing multiple allegedly violent attacks against a veteran postie, some residents in Sadadeen were notified that their mail would be redirected to the town's post office for collection.

The ABC understands a federal government minister's office was involved in meetings with NT Police to find a solution for impacted residents. Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole says Australia Post did not consult with police before halting its delivery service. "After some meetings with our management team and Australia Post, I think we've reassured them that we are actively doing some proactive stuff in that space, and it should be a lot safer for their postal delivery workers."

"Nobody should be subjected to assaults coming to work at all, and it's absolutely abhorrent behaviour that shouldn't be tolerated." He said a spate of youth offending needed further attention, although the recent drop in crime reported by police was encouraging.

‘National disgrace’: Parents have ‘let down’ the children of Alice Springs‘National disgrace’: Parents have ‘let down’ the children of Alice SpringsParents have “let down” the children of Alice Springs as they are faced with horrific domestic violence in their homes and roam the streets to escape it, according to business owner Darren Clarke. Mr Clarke recognised that some children roaming the streets are “looking for attention” but feels sorry for the ones who are receiving no help in the community. “No one is looking after these kids that are on the streets,” he told Sky News Australia. “It just goes on and on, and it’s a national disgrace, I can’t put it any other way, that when you have got kids as young as five, six and seven on the street until 2 am in the morning in a regional town and you’ve got cars flying around – it’s just so dangerous. “Someone is going to get killed here, I hate to say it, someone will, or someone will get injured, or these kids will get injured in these cars.” Mr Clarke has called for “uncomfortable conversations” around the way women and children are being treated in the Northern Territory town. “We have to care for these kids, otherwise, this cycle keeps going,” he said.
