Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pledges AU$200 million for women's sports following the Matildas home team's success in its FIFA Women's World Cup hosting
Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Saturday, August 19, promised AU$200 million for women’s sports in the wake of the Matildas run to a maiden Women’s World Cup semifinals.
Albanese said the funds would be used to improve sports facilities and equipment for women and girls, with football tipped to need “significant resourcing” following the Matildas’ standout World Cup campaign. “We want women and girls everywhere in Australia to have the facilities and the support to choose a sport they love.”
