Independent economist Warren Hogan has argued Australia is 'not in any position to cut rates' ahead of the Reserve Bank's meeting on Tuesday, although he backed predictions the bank would opt against another hike.

Speaking to Sky News Australia on Monday, Mr Hogan echoed those predictions, but cautioned households were still set for a long wait before the bank delivered its first cut. "As the economy sits going into one July, into the tax cuts, we're creating jobs, inflation's looking sticky at around four per cent - although people are optimistic it will come down, I'm not so sure - and of course the overall trajectory of our business sector, they're still investing and activity's still turning over," he said.
