An uptick in the August consumer price index, particularly strength across services and core measures, has injected some complexity into the inflation battle. The group, called “Doctors for Yes”, say it took barely a week for Dr Adam Steinberg and a handful of his colleagues to get more than 1,000 doctors and student doctors to sign on to support a change they believe is the best chance of improving Indigenous health.
Dr Catherine Pendrey, a GP who worked for over five years in remote communities across the Northern Territory, said a voice to parliament would create a structured way of listening to Indigenous communities about their problems which was fundamental to improving health.

Armenian-Australians protest against Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-KarabakhHundreds of Armenian-Australians are gathering outside the Turkish, Azerbaijani, Russian and United States embassies in Canberra to protest Azerbaijan's military offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian-Australian community is calling on the United States and Russian governments to do more on the ground in Nagorno Karabakh as indigenous Armenians are pushed out from their ancestral homeland. The Armenian National Committee of Australia Chair Vache Kahramanian called on Australia to join its international allies in delivering urgent humanitarian assistance through the Red Cross. “Australia also needs to call out Azerbaijan for this aggression,” he told Sky News Australia. “It took far too long for Australia to raise its voice and today it needs to look at itself in the mirror as the bastion of a country who champions human rights around the world to also call out Azerbaijan for its ethnic cleansing of about 120,000 people in the 21st century.” Azerbaijan's government has rejected accusations of ethnic cleansing.

Bushfire evacuation alerts issued for parts of VictoriaVictoria had its first glimpse of bushfire season when evacuation alerts were issued for parts of Gippsland in the state's east on Sunday afternoon. Dozens of residents and holidaymakers were forced to flee from Briagolong when an out-of-control bushfire burned through the area. Firefighters have been working hard through the night to maintain the fire. There are currently three ‘Watch and Act’ alerts in Victoria. There is a total fire ban in place in the state’s north in the Mallee region.
