The Australian Federal Police have admitted they got it wrong when they told parliament they briefed Peter Dutton about an investigation into an Australian businessman who was later convicted of corruption offences.

The question, asked by Labor senator Helen Polley, was: “did the AFP inform the then Minister for Home Affairs, Peter Dutton, or his office that it was investigating Mr Bhojani and Radiance International Inc. for foreign bribery?” This morning, in answering questions from Liberal senator James Paterson at a supplementary estimates committee hearing, Gaughan said he had been at the meeting “with a number of other individuals” which had canvassed “a foreign bribery matter”.
