Pesawat yang meragut nyawa 11 individu termasuk Ketua Menteri Sabah, Tun Fuad Stephens dalam nahas Double Six didapati beroperasi secara haram.

Kesimpulan itu dicapai oleh pasukan penyiasatan, berdasarkan laporan yang dinyahklasifikasi oleh Tribunal Rayuan Pentadbiran Australia.

Menurutnya, Sabah Air menghantar draf manual operasi pada hujung 1975 tetapi tidak diluluskan oleh Jabatan Penerbangan Awam ketika itu.Dalam laporan tersebut, terdapat beberapa fakta yang mendedahkan bukan sahaja operasi yang lemah oleh Sabah Air, tetapi juga kegagalan pihak CAD untuk memenuhi tanggungjawab mereka sebagai pihak berkuasa pensijilan tempatan.Australia menyahklasifikasi kesemua tiga laporan yang memperincikan nahas pesawat Double Six daripada Arkib Negara itu.

Ini selepas Tribunal Rayuan Pentadbiran di Sydney yang diketuai oleh G. Lazanas membenarkan pelepasan laporan itu mengikut Seksyen 40 Akta Arkib Australia 1983. Keputusan itu dibuat berdasarkan permohonan yang difailkan oleh firma guaman Messrs Jayasuriya Kah & Co. pada 12 Mei tahun lalu, yang dilantik oleh bekas Ketua Menteri Sabah, Tan Sri Mohd. Harris Salleh.

Awal bulan ini, Kementerian Pengangkutan menyahklasifikasi laporan nahas tersebut yang mendapati kemalangan udara pesawat Sabah Air pada 6 Jun 1976 bukan berpunca akibat sabotaj, kebakaran mahupun letupan. – UTUSAN
