The government says it has told Israel it expects a 'comprehensive and transparent' investigation into a shooting incident in the occupied West Bank that has led to an Australian student losing her right eye.
Even when more than 20 doctors delivered the grim prognosis, Ranem Abu Izneid still held a small sliver of hope that she would miraculously regain vision in her injured eye. It's been just over a month since the Australian was in her dormitory at Al-Quds University, in the occupied West Bank , when she says a bullet shot by Israeli forces penetrated her dormitory window , with shrapnel from the projectile permanently damaging her right eye.
Last month, the Israeli Border Police told the ABC that security forces entered Abu Dis on 15 November to "rescue a citizen who was attacked there" — later clarifying its statement to say the man had left by the time they arrived. "Rioters at the place threw rocks and marble slates on the forces from the roofs of homes and, in that way, endangered their lives," the Israeli Border Police statement said.
