“I saw a good state-caliber team nationally ranked come in here and do a great job,” Judson coach Mark Soto said. “Both teams played hard. Special teams, we gotta make sure we take a look at and clean things up.”Judson scored on its second play of the game, when senior quarterback Andres Villagran hit senior receiver Anthony Evans on a screen pass and the speedy Oklahoma commit took it 77 yards for a touchdown.
Westlake answered quickly on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Brett Skinner to Notre Dame commit Jaden Greathouse, who starred for the Chaps throughout the first half. The senior wide receiver returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown with under a minute left in the second quarter, zig-zagging all over the field and forcing an array of missed tackles.
The Chaparrals scored one of the most bizarre safeties possible earlier in the second quarter when a Judson punt went backward and was eventually downed in the Rockets’ end zone for two points. Evans showed off his blistering speed once again late in the third quarter, when the senior returned a kick 78 yards for his second touchdown of the game. The wideout caught the kick and ran laterally to fake a reverse handoff to his teammate, prompting Westlake to bite on the misdirection as he sprinted down the sideline for six.The No. 1 team in the state and No. 9 team in the country performed as expected, and Judson can only grow from the experience.
