Austin police have announced changes to their policies regarding cooperation with ICE officers, prompting varied reactions from the community. Many Austinites support the adjustments, believing they better align with the city's values.

Josiah Pecina, an Austin resident, expressed a desire for changes in police approaches. "I think there can be some changes towards that and their approach with everything." He emphasized the importance of targeting criminals while protecting law-abiding people. City Councilman Ryan Alter explained that the new policy requires officers who detain a criminal and choose to report them to ICE to first contact their supervisor and remain with the individual until they are arrested. Pecina supports continued policy changes to safeguard non-criminals. "If the police had their structure down a little more, and if they are really criminal people that are like people who are raping children or who are thugs and everything like that. I think they have a right to do that," he said."I still believe the American people want us to remove dangerous, violent criminals from the streets, but they don't want to see these images of children and people being dragged out of their cars and US citizens. Those excessive use of forces cases need to stop," he said. Meanwhile, Nikki Darden, who attended a protest against ICE operations organized by State Rep. James Talarico, praised the policy changes. "I think that ICE needs to be abolished, and it feels good that we're heading in that direction," she said.APD investigating deadly overnight hit-and-run involving a pedestrian downtown A pedestrian is dead, and police are without a suspect, after a deadly crash on the I-35 service road in downtown Austin overnight on Saturday.Around 2:48 a.m.A man is in custody after SWAT teams responded to a situation at an apartment building in San Marcos on Sunday. At 12:45 p.m., San Marcos police reported that ofThe Austin Police Department stated Saturday night that SWAT was responding to an incident at the 1000 block of Springdale Rd.The department posted about the iTwo people were injured after a small plane ran off the runway at the Austin Executive Airport on Friday.Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed that medics responde
