Austin city officials are considering a deal to purchase a 386,000-square-foot facility for $107.6 million to serve as a consolidated headquarters for police, f
ire, and emergency medical services , Mayor Kirk Watson announced Friday.
"This purchase represents a historic opportunity to co-locate our public safety administrative and strategic functions, allowing for unprecedented collaboration and efficiencies," Watson said.The proposed headquarters would replace current facilities that are between 54 and 64 years old and plagued with issues ranging from failing mechanical systems to crumbling foundations.
