Scotland coach Austin MacPhee insists Steve Clarke’s side should be aiming for better than just qualification for Euro 2024 - they should be targeting history.
“We have to not be delighted to be at the party, and think 'what can we achieve as a team there’. Play well and play with personality and keep the key Scottish characteristics, the ones that dug us a result out in Norway when we probably didn’t even deserve a point. We weren’t great but we got the result.
“Of course you could get a bad draw in the finals. But it would have a significance in qualifying for the World Cup, which is another thing I’ve a burning ambition to do - as a coach full stop, but all the more with Scotland.” “If we can batter Cyprus and results go our way...can we then make some changes that have some risk and can we all sit down and ask ‘how do we get out the group for the first time in 150 years of Scottish football?’
