Now the search continues with just two candidates boiled down from 39 applicants. Unlike in the past, some city council members said this hiring process is aiming to be as transparent as possible, "I'm pleased that we've had a recruitment process that has been transparent, that's had multiple opportunities for our communities to engage, and still there's more to come," said District 2 Councilwoman, Vanessa Fuentes.
In a statement to CBS Austin, District 6 Councilwoman, Mackenzie Kelly said in part, "this careful and deliberate process reflects our dedication to finding the most qualified individual to lead our city into the future. Transparency has been, and always will be, a cornerstone of our selection process."
Hensley added, " help have stability, help to get a police chief hired, and help make sure you're filling department head positions."
