Austal USA prepares to break ground on new submarine module facility

Work is well underway on several contracts awarded to shipbuilder Austal USA as the company prepares to break ground on a new facility to expand its submarine m

odule production capacity.

"As far as what is next here, we've got to get these buildings up and then fill them up and start cranking submarine modules,” said Larry Ryder, Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs for Austal. "The buildings will come online in 2 years, then we'll be ramping up, so probably in about 2 and a half to 3 years we should be at 5,000 employees largely in Mobile,” he said.

"That's going to be the biggest challenge is, how do we grow the workforce to keep up with the demand throughout Mobile,” he said.
