Australian TV legend and media industry leader Brian Walsh has died aged 68. 7NEWS
Walsh was the man behind the international success of long-running television series Neighbours and was also credited with launching the careers of Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce.
Australian TV legend and media industry leader Brian Walsh, the man behind the TV series Neighbours’ success, has died at 68.Walsh worked in radio at a young age and joined Network Ten, where he helped launch shows such as the acclaimed Kennedy Miller mini-series Vietnam, The Bangkok Hilton and The Dirtwater Dynasty, before going on to take soapie Neighbours to international success.
Shortly after the news of his death, Australian radio hosts and TV personalities such as Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson expressed their sadness live on air.“Love to his family and friends and everyone at Foxtel. He was one of the nice television types,” Sandilands added.“I’m in shock & utterly devastated at the news of losing my long time friend & mentor Brian Walsh,” actor Guy Pearce said on Twitter.
“This is a very difficult day for the Foxtel Group family, for Australia’s creative community and the millions of Australians who watched and loved the stories that Brian bought to life through television,” Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany said.
