Aurora police on Saturday arrested a 16-year-old boy on attempted murder charges after a shootout with police Wednesday.
The 16-year-old is being held for investigation of seven charges of attempted murder of a police officer, as well as a single charge of aggravated motor vehicle theft, according to a police news release.striking four police cars but no officers. Police said officers in an unmarked car were following a stolen Kia sedan with multiple passengers as it pulled into a parking lot at 6th Avenue and Peoria Street around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Someone in the car started shooting at the unmarked police cars without warning, according to police. Two officers returned fire and the people in the Kia started to drive away, but were met with more officers responding to the scene. The Kia’s occupants then fired more shots at officers before escaping. Five officers shot at the Kia; four police cars were hit by gunfire. Officers believe at least one person in the Kia was shot. The car was later found a short distance away, crashed.
