The Aurora Empowerment Systems directors who are facing charges for environmental and water transgressions at the failed Grootvlei mine near Springs will appear in court on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse on Thursday.
According to Outa, a number of environmental issues were reported while the mine was still under Aurora’s management. Outa further states that during this period the East Rand was on the brink of an environmental disaster due to contaminated water that could have affected groundwater resources.
