With big and juicy freshwater prawns, Auntie Sim’s Dry Fried Hong Kong Yee Mee is a savoury dish to be shared.
Of Teochew descent, her home-cooked food left a lasting impression on the family and thus, Auntie Sim’s Kitchen carries on her legacy, offering Teochew cuisine but with a few Cantonese delicacies incorporated into the menu as well. Once the prawn balls have gone down the hatch, it’s time to slurp on some Double Boiled Dried Wild Mushrooms with Top Shell Soup. It’s a crowd favourite here.
Even the cold salad of vegetable and fruits deserves a mention, being as it was a great respite from all the spicy food. Served in hot Supreme Broth, of similar taste to Shark Fin Soup, the soft cabbage acts as a fragile shell to the juicy morsels of oysters and scallops inside. While Yee Mee can be found in most Chinese restaurants, Auntie Sim’s take on the dish will leave you gobsmacked.
Made with preserved bean curd from Taiwan, the dish is also cooked with tangerine skin that gives the fish a distinctive flavour. The fish itself is noticeably fresh, and the skin a delight to pick at as it is chewy.
