Covid in the House of Old is on display at Saskatoon's Sherbrooke Community Centre May 20 to June 1, then Cliff Wright Library June 5-17.
Exhibit curator Megan J. Davies demonstrates one of the pieces from the COVID in the House of Old audio exhibition.First displayed in B.C. in 2022, CIHO is a storytelling exhibit that features audio stories alongside wooden ‘story chairs.’ Six chairs hold objects that represent individuals whose lives werein long-term care. A seventh chair is held by Wikwemikong Nursing Home on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, representing the community in the home.
“It has allowed family members to achieve some measure of healing through their participation in the exhibit … I think that acknowledging grief and healing through being part of changing something that caused harm is very, very powerful.”Article content The exhibition is intended to get people thinking about the future of elder care in Canada and the need for change, Davies said.
