Auburn is ranked No. 8 in the final AP poll before the NCAA Tournament
Auburn is one of four SEC teams in this week’s AP poll, with three of them ranked in the top 10 of the poll. The Tigers are the third-highest ranked SEC team in the top-25, behind SEC Tournament champion Tennessee and Kentucky. The Vols moved up to No. 5 in the poll following their conference title, climbing four spots from the week prior, while the Wildcats -- who lost to Tennessee in the semifinals -- dropped two spots from fifth to seventh in the rankings.
Arkansas, meanwhile, checked in at No. 17 following its semifinals loss to Texas A&M. The Razorbacks slid two spots from the Week 18 poll. Gonzaga remained the nation’s top-ranked teams, followed by Arizona, Kansas and Baylor. All four of those teams earned No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Despite dropping to No 8 in the poll, Auburn was still the highest-seeded team from the SEC in the NCAA Tournament. Bruce Pearl’s team earned a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region and will open the tournament on Friday against 15th-seeded Jacksonville State. The Tigers were revealed to be the fifth overall seed in the field, making them the top team among the two-seeds, of which Kentucky was another. Tennessee earned a No. 3 seed, while Arkansas was a four-seed.
