The Auburn community gathered to celebrate the life of Reverend Chette Williams, the beloved football chaplain who passed away unexpectedly.
AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - Family, friends, athletes, and the Auburn community said their last goodbye to Rev. Chette Williams at Lakeview Baptist Church Saturday afternoon. A day filled with heavy hearts as the Auburn Community celebrated the life of longtime Auburn University football chaplain, Reverend Chette Williams on Saturday, Dec. 21. Former Auburn Tiger football player and teammate of Williams, Gerald Robinson says you could always feel Williams presence in any room and on the field.
“Chette was an awesome guy. He always been awesome as we all were young and wildly crazy having fun and then all of a sudden you mature and then I saw him mature in the Lord and he just brought so many of us to the Lord just watching him live his life,” said Robinson. Chette Williams joined Fellowship of Christian Athletes and began his career as Auburn football teams chaplain in 1999. John Gibbons with FCA reflects on his last conversation with Williams just days before his passing “Chette Williams meant the world to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and to me personally he was my close friend we worked side-by-side together for 26 years. I had just worked with him for a full day to plan the new year and we had great plans for 2025 to launch some new things in the ministry,” said Gibbons. Williams passed away on Dec. 18 after falling off a dock on Lake Martin while attempting to get inside a boat. He is survived by his brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, his friends, and the Auburn family. Rev. Chette Williams left a huge impact on the auburn university family and he will be dearly missed. Auburn University also announced the school will hold a memorial for Rev. Williams on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Neville Arena on Auburn University’s campus
