Auburn Tigers rise to the top of the AP Top 25 men's basketball rankings for the second time in program history after Tennessee's loss. The SEC continues its dominance with nine teams in the top 25.

Auburn has ascended to the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press men's basketball poll for the second time in program history, marking a significant achievement for the Tigers. This surge comes after the previous No. 1 team, Tennessee, suffered its first loss of the season against Florida, ending a five-week reign at the top. Bruce Pearl 's Auburn Tigers , boasting a 15-1 record, secured 60 out of 62 first-place votes, propelling them to the top position.

The Tigers' lone defeat occurred at Duke in early December, but they have since embarked on a winning streak of eight consecutive games.Auburn's ascent to No. 1 highlights an SEC-dominated poll. The conference boasts nine teams within the AP Top 25, including three of the top five and five of the top ten. Iowa State climbed to No. 2, reaching its highest ranking ever, followed by Duke, Alabama, and Florida. Notably, both the Blue Devils and Gators received a first-place vote.Tennessee, despite its previous dominance, fell five spots to No. 6 after the 30-point loss to Florida, though they recovered with a victory against Texas. Marquette remained at No. 7, the only team to retain its position from the previous week. Kentucky, preseason No. 1 Kansas, and Houston completed the top 10. Meanwhile, Michigan State and Michigan experienced significant jumps, climbing four spots each. Florida and Purdue also ascended three positions. Alongside Tennessee's decline, Illinois suffered the week's biggest drop, falling six spots after a home loss to Southern California. Fellow defending national champion UConn mirrored Tennessee's five-spot decline, settling at No. 14 after a loss to Villanova. Georgia, Wisconsin, and Baylor made their entrance into the poll this week, with Georgia's inclusion marking a 13-year return to the rankings
