When Gotay arrives to The Plains, he’ll use his COVID year of eligibility and suit up for his seventh year of college football.
Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers made another late addition Thursday morning, announcing they had scooped up and signed former Maryland linebacker Fa’Najae Gotay from the transfer portal. Gotay also received a redshirt year after appearing in just four games as a true freshman in 2018 and a medical redshirt year after sustaining a season-ending injury in Maryland’s season-opener in 2021.
Gotay is coming off his most productive season after appearing in all 13 of Maryland’s games in 2023 and logging 44 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Gotay also capped off his season with a team-leading performance against Auburn in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, where he led the Terrapins with six tackles.
Gotay is Auburn’s second transfer linebacker this offseason as he joins former Duke linebacker Dorian Mausi Jr., who was signed in December and also has just one year of eligibility remaining.
