Surely one of the hottest projects hitting the Cannes market this year is “Tomorrow Is a Drag,” the anticipated comeback of Oscar-winning filmmaker and Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Broderick .
“Tomorrow Is a Drag” marks Lonergan’s first directorial effort since “Manchester by the Sea,” which won Casey Affleck an Oscar for best actor and an Oscar for original screenplay, as well as a best director nomination. MK2 Films is handling international sales, while WME reps North America.
MK2 Films is at Cannes with 11 features across the official selection, including five in competition: Marie Kreutzer’s “Gentle Monster,” Léa Mysius’ “The Birthday Party,” Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Minotaur,” Ira Sachs’ “The Man I Love” and Koji Fukada’s “Nagi Notes. ” Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the title hints at the writer-director’s signature blend of humor and touching character study that defined “Manchester by the Sea,” as well as “Margaret” and his debut “You Can Count on Me.
” Sara Murphy, the Oscar-winning producer of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” is producing under her Fat City outfit. Production is scheduled to begin this fall in New York. Driver, who is in Cannes to present James Gray’s “Piper Tiger” in competition, previously worked with Lonergan on the Off-Broadway play “Hold On to Me Darling.
